These drawings were made by the Holly Lodge Community Centre life drawing class who meet weekly in Highgate. They are a friendly, talented group from an interesting variety of creative backgrounds - (from no previous experience to art degree level). This course is run by Artist & WEA tutor Camilla Scaramanga.

Reviewing a WEA course from April 2007 at the 491 Gallery in Leytonstone, E11. During a 6-day course 12 people with no prior experience of wind turbine construction or similar engineering projects built a 500-watt axial flux wind turbine, based on the design of Scottish wind turbine designer Hugh Piggott. Journey Exhibition
"These new artists are all members of the Age Concern Southwark Black Elders Group and have been working under the tutelage of South African artist Mbuyisa Maphalala.With his guidance they have collectively produced a body of work that draws on a whole range of influences, from cubism to the folk art of West Africa."

The Third Age Project: Pottery
|
The WEA works in partnership with the Third Age Project, a local older people's registered charity run by and for older people. It serves a highly diverse population of West Euston, Camden, notable for having low incomes, poor health and suffering multiple deprivations. It strongly believes in promoting a healthy and enoyable "third age".

The pottery class at The Third Age Project has been running for the past six years. Taught by Daniella Saul (an accomplished professional potter, see her work at www.daniellasaul.com), the class has an energetic group of students with a wide range of abilities and skills.

Students are from homeless/socially excluded backgrounds. All the work is of broadcast standard, inventive and socially committed.

Every member of this class has a visual impairment and most have lost their sight late in life, the oldest member of the group is 97. No-one in the group had made felt before.
